How to Lose 100 Pounds in Six Months
Losing 100 pounds in six months sounds extreme. It sounds like something you’d see in a headline that promises more than it delivers.
But here’s the question we should really be asking:
If you truly have 100 pounds to lose… why wouldn’t you lose it? And, how long do you want it to take?
For many people who have gone through my program, losing 100 pounds in about six months hasn’t been unusual. It’s happened over and over again, not because of pills or shots, but because of structure, consistency, and a complete reset in how to think about food.
Here are just a few real-life examples of people who’ve accomplished this feat through my program:
Reed lost 95 pounds in 5 months
Sherry lost 100+ pounds in 6 months
Hunter lost 100+ pounds in 6 months
Ryan lost 100 pounds in just over 6 months
Again, it’s not due to some chemical pill or shot; it’s normal cause and effect.
Why listen to Trainer Joe?
Based in Lexington, KY, Trainer Joe has helped tens of thousands of people lose weight (many dropping 50, 75, or 100+ pounds). He’s the creator of the 21-Day Transformation program and author of It’s Only Food (also available as an audiobook, narrated by Joe), and recipe guides focused on practical, sustainable fat loss. His approach cuts through diet confusion and focuses on mindset, real food, and personal responsibility. This combination creates lasting change that is tried, tested, and true.
Now, let’s walk through this simply.
Before the Plan: Fix the Mindset
Before we get to the food, we need to start with the truth.
You were made to eat, but you weren’t made to overeat.
Most people with significant weight to lose aren’t eating because they’re physically starving. Physical hunger doesn’t require massive portions. We eat beyond hunger because of emotion, habit, stress, comfort, boredom, and reward.
And here’s the hard part: Your life is never going to calm down enough for this to become easy.
If you’re waiting for things to “settle” before you lose weight, you’ll be waiting forever.
There will always be stress, responsibilities, and reasons not to start.
So, the first mindset shift is simple:
“I’m doing this anyway.”
Memorize it, write it on your arm, do whatever it takes!
The Reality of Excess
If you have 100 pounds to lose, that didn’t happen by accident.
You’ve essentially been eating for two people for a long time. That excess wasn’t necessary.
During this process, satisfaction cannot be the priority. The goal isn’t comfort; it’s change.
You need to replace indulgence with discipline. Understand that this doesn’t mean misery forever. Discipline will eventually turn into habit!
Is Losing 100 Pounds in Six Months Possible?
Let’s break it down so it doesn’t feel overwhelming.
100 pounds in 6 months equals:
50 pounds in 3 months
About 16–17 pounds per month
About 3.8 pounds per week
Roughly 0.5 pounds per day
When you see it in those bite-size amounts, it becomes less dramatic. But let’s be clear: half a pound per day doesn’t happen accidentally. It happens when your food intake and physical activity is structured and purposeful.
That brings us to the plan!
The Daily Eating Plan
This plan is intentionally simple. Not fancy. Not trendy. Repeatable.
Here’s your menu for every day:
A large salad with unlimited vegetables
6 ounces of grilled chicken or grilled salmon
Dressing limited to 30 calories
1 hard-boiled egg
1 bowl of plain oatmeal
¼ cup of walnuts
1 apple
1 Quest Bar
That’s your day. You can split it into meals, you can eat it all at once; it doesn’t matter so long as that’s all you eat each day.
The key here is consistency.
When compared to what you currently eat, this will feel like a major shift. That’s expected. If what you were eating already worked in the first place, you wouldn’t be looking to lose 100 lbs.
What to Drink
Hydration matters a lot more than you think.
Every day, drink:
At least 100 ounces of water (12.5 cups)
Optional additions:
Up to 2 cups of coffee (sweetened only with stevia or monk fruit and a max of 2 tablespoons skim milk or unsweetened almond milk per cup)
One can of Zevia soda per day
No liquid calories. No hidden excess.
Exercise: Don’t Overcomplicate It
You don’t need a brutal workout plan. What you need is regular movement.
The minimum is at least 30 minutes per day of activity:
Walking
Biking
Yoga
Jogging
Strength training
Just walking is enough to support this process because consistency matters more than intensity with this plan.
A Necessary Disclaimer
If you have significant weight to lose or medical conditions, it’d be a good idea to consult your doctor before making major dietary changes.
While I get a lot of referrals from local doctors who stand by and fully support this plan, it may still be wise to speak with a doctor first. This is a serious and significant change for your body, so professional medical guidance is highly recommended.
Why Most People Won’t Do This
Here’s the uncomfortable truth: your current mindset got you to your current weight, and you won’t experience lasting weight loss without a changed mind.
If nothing changes mentally, nothing changes physically.
Starting with my book, It’s Only Food, is a good way to begin reframing how you think about meals before starting the 6-month journey.
What Happens If You Actually Do This?
If you follow a structured plan for six months, without quitting every time it feels uncomfortable, your body responds. And beyond the weight loss, something else happens: you regain control.
You prove to yourself that discipline is possible and realize that you don’t need excess. You build momentum until it becomes a habit.
You can be a weight loss success story.
